almost christian
I had a friend tell me some thing yesterday that really upset me. It wasn't the first time I had heard it but for some reason it really got under my skin. You dont have to attend church to be a christian. This is not true! God made christians to want to be with other christians. How can you grow if not discipled by more mature christians? Jesus spent three years teaching the apostles so that when he was gone they could teach others. This is how God grew his church. Too many people want to make christianity convenient and God never said that it would. It is too easy to be fooled by false doctrine if you dont have a mature person to correct you. Also the church has a responsibility to hold its members accountable for their lifestyle. We need to remember that we were bought with a price and that we dont belong to ourselves anymore. People want to make God bow to their wishes and forget that He created the world! One day when we are held accountable these people will say Lord I cast out demons in your name and he will answer depart from me I never knew you. This really scares me for my friends. We, the church, need to stand up and be strong enough to make people upset with us. It's better that they are angry now and know the truth than to please them now and allow them to spend eternity in a devils hell.

The motivation is selfishness. It is an unwillingness to commit At the root, it really is no different than a man who refuses to marry or to be present in the raising of his children. It is just selfishness, sin, and self-deceit.
ReplyDeleteThe idea that someone who has been adopted by God and mercifully brought into the body of His bride can somehow live happily in solitary confinement is preposterous. If we belong to Him, we are in His body. That means we are yoked up with a local body of believers. Real believers are present in His body and stirring up one another to love and good works. God did not call Moses to lead himself out of Egypt, but to lead the people God had chosen for His own. Likewise, God sent His one and only begotten Son to die for a people -- a chosen race, a royal priesthood -- not just an individual. A strand of hair or a fingernail that has been cut off from the body no longer gives and receives nourishment to the body. And as the author of the epistle to the Hebrews writes:
"Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near." (Hebrews 10:19-25)
Grace and peace to you through Christ our King!
